After 270 days in captivity, Rossella Urru is free. The release of the aid worker kidnapped in southern Algeria on 23 October 2011 was announced by Minister Giulio Terzi.
“This is wonderful news”, the Minister told journalists at the Farnesina. He explained that he had conveyed a message from President Napolitano to the relatives of the aid worker, who were awaiting confirmation of her release from the Crisis Unit.
Napolitano “personally followed this case, along with the Prime Minister, me and the entire Government. A case that has been so very difficult for Italian public opinion”, explained Terzi. The Minister added that “Rossella Urru’s case is a is a symbol of the values of courage and heroism of our women who are working in extremely difficult areas of Development Cooperation […] and who represent the dignity, pride and greatness of our country”.
