The authorities of the municipality of Vukovar and the Vukovarsko-Srijemska Region have organised a “Croatian Heart for Italy” initiative to support the Italian communities hit by the earthquakes of 20 and 29 May 2012. They acted in collaboration with the Croatian Cro Unum Humanitarian Association, headed by Prof. Dragan Primorac; the Association of Children of the Croatian defenders who fell or were lost in action during the war; and the Embassy of Italy in Zagreb.
The initiative was a sign of gratitude for the support received from Italy during the war years (1991-1995), during which the town was besieged for 87 days, from August to September 1991.
A key element of the initiative was a charity football match, the proceeds of which will go to the Italian regions hit by the earthquake. Read more, in Italian.
