Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke today with the Ambassador of Italy to Santo Domingo, Sergio Maffettone, to have an update on the conditions of the Italian tourists staying at the Bayahibe resort that caught fire on Friday morning.
Minister Tajani also spoke with the husband of Francesca Valentino, the Italian woman who died in the fire, expressing his condolences and those of the Italian government.
Ambassador Maffettone briefed Minister Tajani on the consular operations carried out to assist Italian nationals returning to Italy, and also updated him on the activities of Alpitour staff, who have been mobilizing effectively from the outset to assist the tourists.
After the flight that took off yesterday evening, another 83 Italian nationals will return today with departures already scheduled. Just over 90 compatriots remain, who will return, in agreement with Alpitour, over the next few days following the original schedule.
