Los Angeles: An Italian Month of Science

From 8 May to 7 June the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles will be hosting “150 years of Italian Genius”, a travelling exhibition curated by the Rosselli Foundation. The exhibition showcases the most important scientific discoveries from the year of Italy’s unification up to our own day and highlights their contribution to the quality of our everyday lives.

The Institute, in association with the Consulate General and the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation (ISSNAF), is organising an “Italian Month of Science” to accompany the exhibition. This “container” of events will highlight Italy’s contribution to international scientific research by presenting not just Italian excellence in numerous sectors but also the many high-profile Italian personalities working on the West Coast of America.

The opening day of the “Month” will see the opening of the exhibition, introduced by its scientific curator, Riccardo Viale, and a screening of “L’Italia del futuro”, a film by Alberto Angela. Those attending the events include Massimo Piattelli Palmarini, a professor in cognitive science from the University of Arizona, and Vanda Monaco, artistic director of the Relational Medicine Foundation. They will discuss the interactions between neurophysiology and the use of language, medicine and drama in the relationship between science/technology and humanism. Also on 8 May, Prof. Carlo Pedretti will be giving a presentation on Leondardo da Vinci, on whom he is considered to be one of the world’s greatest authorities.
