The first edition of the ‘Mattei Prize for Cultural Cooperation’ is now underway, organised by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The initiative, developed as part of the implementation of the Mattei Plan, aims to strengthen relations between Italy and the countries of the African continent by supporting works, cultural projects and artistic and academic training programmes. The relevant call for the first edition has been published on the website of the Central Institute for Economic Enhancement and Promotion (IC-VEPP) and is available at https://ic-vepp.cultura.gov.it/avviso-pubblico-premio-mattei-per-la-cooperazione-culturale-prima-edizione-2026/.
The Prize is divided into two sections. The ‘Mattei Art Prize’ section supports projects in the fields of the visual arts, the applied arts, the performing and audiovisual arts, editorial translation, and the international circulation of photographic exhibitions. The ‘Mattei Academy Prize’, on the other hand, is dedicated to organising training programmes and cultural and artistic exchanges between Italy and Africa.
Individuals, artistic and cultural collectives, and public or private non-profit organisations based in Italy with at least three years’ experience in the cultural and creative sector are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted in partnership with at least one organisation based in an African country.
Applications must be submitted exclusively via the portal https://servizi.cultura.gov.it/ portal from 12:00 on 31 August 2026 to 12:00 on 31 October 2026.
