The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Italy in Cairo and the Honorary Consul in Sharm El Sheikh, has been monitoring the case of the minor Younes Majidi since the day of the incident. He is currently in a critical condition in intensive care at the Pyramid International Hospital in Sharm El Sheikh following a cardiac arrest caused by drowning in a swimming pool on 3 August.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani has been following the matter closely, liaising with the Embassy and with the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio. Turin ASL (Local Health Authority) 4 has, in fact, offered the services of the Regina Margherita Hospital to take the child into care.
The Embassy continues to facilitate liaison between the Pyramid International Hospital in Sharm, the Regina Margherita Hospital in Turin and the Foundation designated to organise the medical repatriation, as well as with the airport authorities. It is hoped that the medical repatriation will take place in the coming days. Following further investigations carried out using magnetic resonance imaging, the attending doctors and the Italian medical team agreed that the child was fit to be transported by air.
The Embassy in Cairo will also help to cover part of the medical expenses incurred by the family at the hospital in Sharm. He is in constant contact with the family to provide all kinds of assistance, including logistical and administrative support in Egypt, and will continue to liaise closely with them ahead of their return to Italy.
