The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Embassy of Italy and the Consulate-General in Madrid, is continuing to monitor the situation regarding the rail accident in Spain involving two trains, operated by Iryo and Renfe, to ascertain whether any Italian citizens were involved.
Based on the passenger list for the Iryo train and initial information regarding the Renfe train, seven Italian nationals are currently known to be involved. Four of our compatriots are in good condition, a fifth is in hospital in Toledo and two others are still missing. In particular, with regard to the train operated by Renfe, discussions are continuing with the authorities to obtain the full passenger list and check whether there are any other Italians on board: the authorities will continue to update their lists throughout the night.
At the request of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, a team from the Consulate-General will continue to visit hospitals in the area and reception centres for survivors to gather further information and provide assistance.
