On Wednesday 13 December, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the “Objectives and proposals to grow together” 8th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, organised as part of the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the Italy-Latin America Institute (IILA).
Referring to the event, Minister Alfano said “fourteen years after the first event, the Italy-Latin America Conferences still represent the most important occasions for Italy and South American countries to meet and have discussions. There is a deep spirit of friendship and brotherhood between us based on special cultural, political and economic bonds. Held every two years since then, the Conferences have become increasingly dynamic. They have given us the opportunity to deepen the dialogue between our countries, giving rise to well-organised co-operation so that we can face the challenges of a globalised world together”.
There will be many South American Ministers at the Conference, along with embassy representatives, experts, and Italian institutional representatives.
The Conference will be open to the press at all times.
The opening session (International Conference Room 9:30-10:30 a.m.) will be attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia, Maria Angela Holguín, the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda (TBC), President of the EU-LAC Foundation, Leonel Fernandez, and the Secretary-General of the Italo-Latin American Institute, Donato Di Santo.
At 10:30 a.m. there will be a group photo.
There will then be a working session at the Conference (International Conference Room, 10:45 a.m. – 1:20 p.m.) chaired by the Deputy Minister of the Farnesina, Mario Giro; a plenary session (International Conference Room, 3:00-4:30 p.m.) on the importance of power grids; and a focus session (Nigra Room, 3:00-4:30 p.m.) on combatting bribery, presided over by the Advisor for International Affairs of the President of the Italian Senate, Rosario Aitala, with contributions, inter alia, by the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-terrorism Prosecutor, Federico Cafiero de Raho.
The final session of the Conference (International Conference Room, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.) will include remarks by the Honorary President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Pier Ferdinando Casini, the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marina Sereni, and the Socio-Economic Secretary of IILA, José Luis Rhi-Sausi. Closing remarks will be made by the Deputy Minister of the Farnesina, Mario Giro.
