“An Italian Development Cooperation humanitarian flight took off this morning from the UN base in Brindisi with a load of about 10 tonnes of aid to be delivered to the city of Zwara in Libya,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano.
The aircraft, operated by the Italian Air Force, transported tents, blankets, mattresses and hygiene kits for migrants being hosted in the city’s reception centre.
The minister continued: “With this donation, the Italian Development Cooperation has met the appeal recently launched by the Libyan authorities for direct aid in order to provide more dignified conditions for the migrants.” Alfano added: “Upon arrival in Tripoli, relief supplies will be taken over by the Italian Embassy in Libya, which will be in charge of subsequently delivering them to their final destination via land transport systems. This is further proof of Italy’s solidarity with Libya.”
