Cooperation. Alfano: “A flight from Italy with medicines and healthcare equipment for Niger”

“Through the Italian cooperation network, we have prepared an aid package for the people of Niger comprising healthcare equipment and medicines, to be sent to Niamey on an Italian Air Force flight.” The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano made the announcement, adding: “In response to a request by the Niger authorities in recent weeks, a humanitarian flight left today with about 15 tons of medicine for the local population”.

The flight left from the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) in Brindisi, which is managed by the World Food Programme. It carried medicine kits for the most common diseases in the country, and hard-to-find healthcare materials.

Alfano said: “On arriving at Niamey, the staff of the Ministries of Defence and Health already on site will collect the medicines and manage the subsequent distribution to the relevant Niger Institutions in association with the local authorities”.
