Following the requests for clarification on the case of North Korea’s former Chargé d’Affaires in Italy, Jo Song Gil, the Foreign Ministry specifies the following: last 3 January, the Foreign Ministry already informed that it had received, through diplomatic channels, a notice relative to the official’s transfer from the Embassy of North Korea in Rome. The Foreign Ministry received two formal notices in this respect. The first – dated 20 November 2018 – informed that the position of Chargé d’Affaires in Rome would be assumed by Mr Kim Chon. The second – dated 5 December 2018 – informed that the former Chargé d’Affaires Jo Song Gil and his wife had left the Embassy on 10 November and that their daughter, having expressed the wish to return to her Country to stay with her grandparents, had returned there on 14 November 2018, accompanied by some of the female staff of the Embassy.
The Foreign Ministry does not dispose of any further information on the case.
