Third annual meeting of the Joint Development Cooperation Committee: address by Deputy Minister Del Re

In her address at the third annual meeting of the Joint Development Cooperation Committee, Deputy Foreign Minister Emanuela Del Re underscored that our Country is a “giant” of development cooperation on the international scene. She said: “The challenges that development cooperation will have to meet are many: combat poverty, inequalities, the empowerment of women, rights, peace and security, responding to humanitarian crises and global health. This requires greater synchronization between strategic orientations, objectives and priorities. We are already working in this direction.”

In highlighting the special attention focused on Africa, “whose development is strategic for the future of Europe,” the Deputy Minister underscored the importance of the concept of “shared development”, on the basis of which “cooperating means sharing mutually advantageous development processes” grounded on strategies jointly developed with the beneficiaries, as laid down under the 2030 Agenda.

The Deputy Minister concluded: “Italy and Italians possess values and sensitivities that can enrich our way of delivering cooperation. This constitutes a significant value added to the public development aid that we will pledge to distribute and use to the best of our possibilities.”
