The 2nd Edition of “Fare Cinema” opened at the Italian Cultural Institute in Lisbon on May 21st with the speech “Composing for cinema” by the musician and composer Pasquale Catalano, author of the music and soundtracks of successful films, with numerous nominations for the Nastri d’Argento, David di Donatello, Globo d’Oro, and winner of the Golden Graal in 2005, the Ciak d’Oro in 2014, and the Spello Festival in 2016. After studying piano, guitar, violin and composition, he approached the world of cinema, collaborating at first with Pappi Corsicato and, later, with Paolo Sorrentino (Love has no boundaries, The extra Man and The consequences of Love) and with Ferzan Ozpetek (Mine Vaganti, Magnificent Presence, Fasten your Seatbelts, Napoli Velata). He wrote the soundtracks of La Guerra di Mario, Alaska, La Doppia Ora, Sono Tornato, Romanzo Criminale-la Serie, La Siciliana Ribelle, Signorina Effe. He won numerous international awards for Barney’s Version including the 2010 Genie Award.
The review continued on May 22 with the presentation “When cinema meets art” by director Emanuele Imbucci who presented his first film, the documentary “Michelangelo – Infinito”, of which he also co-authored the script, nominated for Best Documentary of Art Events at the 2019 Nastri d’Argento, pre-viewed at the 12th Italian Film Festival in Portugal and screened again on this occasion for the public of the Italian Cultural Institute. Former second unit director for Raffaello – il Principe delle Arti (2017), he previously directed and co-authored the series Donne by Camilleri, broadcast by Rai Uno (2016). In 2018, in the area of documentary-films, he also directed and co-authored the script of Illuminate-Margherita Hack for Rai Tre. He has more than 15 years’ experience as assistant director and casting director for films and fiction productions (Olmi, Pieraccioni, Salemme, Sindoni, Th Torrini and many others).
On Saturday, May 25, the “Fare Cinema” initiative will end in Lisbon with the workshop and practical demonstration “Character design in cinema” by Roberto Pastore, make-up and prosthetic designer of successful films among which the most recent ones are “Il primo re” by Matteo Rovere (2019), “Napoli Velata” by Ferzan Özptek (2017) and” Sulla mia pelle “by Alessio Cremonini (2018), thanks to which he received nominations for the David di Donatello awards. These are some of the highlights of his career: Rosso Malpelo, Smetto quando Voglio ad Honorem, Smetto quando Voglio Reloaded, Napoli Velata, Il Primo Re, Cruel Peter, Sulla Mia Pelle, Il Cattivo Poeta.
After the intervention, the film “Napoli Velata” will be screened, in which the public will be able to admire the make-up made by Pastore in Özptek’s film, in particular on the protagonists Alessandro Borghese and Giovanna Mezzogiorno.
