Today, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in the presence of Deputy Minister Mario Giroa, the Special Report will be presented by the International Energy Agency (IEA)* entitled “Energy Access Outlook: from Poverty to Prosperity.”
The Report sets out guidelines to achieve widespread access to modern energy by 2030. It is a fundamental factor that intersects with and promotes sustainable development and the fight against inequality in accordance with the 2030 Agenda. Global and regional investment strategies are set out in the Report to support distribution of “energy” as an asset for growth, widespread development and improved quality of life. The specific focus on Sub-Saharan Africa shows the potential for development that access to modern forms of energy could unlock, underlining the benefits of access to energy to issues like gender, health and climate change. A high-level panel discussion will follow presentation of the report, chaired by the Director General for Global Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Massimo Gaiani. Government representatives and members of African regional associations will meet with leading representatives of the Italian energy industry to discuss the role of energy policies for development, prosperity and well-being.
* The IEA was established under the umbrella of the OECD in 1974. It currently has 29 member countries, including Italy, with 2 accession countries and 6 association countries, representing over 70% of global energy consumption.
