The Italian Cooperation has made a new emergency contribution of 225,000 euro to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in support of the Sudan Country Strategic Response Plan for 2015. Possible interventions include addressing the water needs of primary healthcare facilities in that African country, six of which have been identified in Eastern Sudan: Gadam Belia and Kampo7 in Wasat, in the Stato of Gedaref; El Geiyt and Erkoweit in Sinkat, State of the Red Sea; Telkoot and Hard El Hager located in Telkoot and Ghirba in the State of Kassala. The Italian Cooperation aims to reach a total of 16,400 persons and, thanks to this contribution, drilling will begin for new wells, along with activities on behalf of improving water storage capabilities and supplying drinkable water.
The intervention is part of a broader package of emergency humanitarian aid Italy has earmarked for Sudan for 2015 amounting to a total of over 2.7 million euro.
