First Italy–Latin America Forum on the promotion of gender equality

On Friday, 12 April, the Farnesina is hosting the Italy–Latin America Forum, dedicated to the “Italy-Latin American Alliance for the Promotion of Gender Equality”. Leveraging the sharing of experiences and best practices, the Forum aims to facilitate building an Alliance between the Participating Countries with a view to singling out projects to combat gender-related violence, affirm equal opportunities and reinforce women’s economic independence.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) in cooperation with the Italo-Latin American Institute (IILA), will focus on fostering the achievement of Goal N. 5 of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development  Agenda “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”, also in consideration of the “National Strategic Plan for Male Violence against Women, 2017-2020” of the Prime Minister’s Office. The Forum is part of the operating follow-ups of the 7th Italy-Latin American and Caribbean Conference that was held at the Farnesina on 13 December 2017.  The 9 o’clock opening session will include statements by Ricardo Antonio Merlo, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), by the Minister of Public Administration, Giulia Bongiorno and by the Ambassador of the Republic of Panama and President of IILA (Italo-Latin American Institute) Ana María De León

The following sessions scheduled contributions by Latin American policy-makers in charge of passing gender equality provisions, as well as the representatives of International Organizations, Parliaments and Institutions. Italy was represented by the Secretary General of IILA, Donato di Santo, and its Thematic Secretaries, the Cabinet’s Equal Opportunity Department, representatives of local institutions, NGOs and experts in the sector.
