Vice Minister Marina Sereni chairs the Italy-Paraguay political consultations

This afternoon, Vice Minister Marina Sereni chaired the Meeting of the Italy-Paraguay Political Consultation Mechanism. On the Paraguayan side, a delegation led by the Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Raúl Cano Ricciardi, was present via videoconference.

Our countries are united by strong historical and cultural ties, by a deep friendship and by a common desire to improve economic, commercial and industrial relations,” said the Vice Minister at the opening of the meeting. In recent years we have registered an intensification of bilateral contacts and visits. The activation today of the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism is a confirmation of the mutual will to maintain the high level of interlocution developed in recent years”. Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Euclides Acevedo Candia, confirmed his presence at the 10th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference that Italy will host in Rome on 25 and 26 October 2021.

In addition to bilateral issues, the Vice Ministers addressed important regional and multilateral topics, such as collaboration in the framework of the International Italo-Latin American Organisation IILA, the EU-Mercosur Agreement, G20, COP26 and the multilateral response to the pandemic.

At the end of the consultations, Italy and Paraguay adopted a joint communiqué. They agreed on the need to give further impetus to Italian-Paraguayan relations, recognising the opportunity to continue enhancing trade and investment growth potential in the perspective of economic recovery after the pandemic.
