Vice Minister Marina Sereni chaired the second session of the Italy-Chile Joint Working Group, at the end of four days of bilateral meetings from 13 to 16 September. Co-chair on the Chilean side was the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Carolina Valdivia.
Sereni and Valdivia noted the excellent level of relations between the two countries and the importance, in this context, of the Group as a tool to push for a further strengthening of bilateral relations.
Sereni highlighted the importance of the large and qualified presence of Italian companies in Chile, which “have believed and continue to believe in the opportunities offered by Chile and want to continue to be important partners for the growth and development of the country,” hoping to continue to benefit from a favourable climate for international investors, as in past years.
We have greatly appreciated,” Sereni continued, referring to the constituent process underway in Chile, “the way in which the Chilean authorities have managed to channel the requests for change from various sectors of civil society into an institutional path in autumn 2019.
Finally, the Vice Minister pointed to the 10th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference, which Italy will host in Rome next 25 and 26 October, as an important stage in the political dialogue with countries in the region. “We are delighted that Chile will be represented at the highest level by Foreign Minister Allamand,” Sereni stressed.
In the course of the work over the past few days, the issues of bilateral economic and trade relations, the environment and energy, as well as scientific and technological cooperation were addressed through thematic sessions.
The working group took place only a few days after President Piñera’s visit to Rome and his meetings with President Mattarella and President Draghi.
