Italy reassures China on the quality of olive oil imported from Italy. This was the content of a communiqué from the Embassy of Italy in Beijing after the Chinese customs authorities opened an inquest into olive oil imported from Italy and alleged in an Italian news investigation to have been produced with oil from other countries.
“The Italian oil produced in Italy and abroad”, the communiqué reads, “is produced and marketed in compliance with the high standards of quality and the priority objective of ensuring the food security of its consumers”. The Embassy underscored, in particular, that the Italian authorities assigned to health and public safety apply a system of in-depth controls to all agri-alimentary products and that the laws for the protection of consumers are in line with those of the European Union.
