Italian Society for International Organisation (SIOI): Frattini is new president

Franco Frattini is the new President of the SIOI – the Italian Society for International Organisation. He was appointed by the special members’ meeting, at the proposal of the Board of Directors. Frattini succeeds Umberto La Rocca, SIOI President from 1993 to 2011 and a former Permanent Representative of Italy at the United Nations in New York.


Franco Frattini was Minister for the Public Administration from 2001 to 2002; Foreign Minister from 2002 to 2004 and from 2008 to 2011; and Vice President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security from 2004 to 2008.


The Italian Society for International Organisation (SIOI) is a non-profit body with an international focus that has been operating since 1944, under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


The SIOI is the Italian Association for the United Nations and a founder member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) and the International Union of Diplomatic Academies. It is based in the Palazzetto di Venezia in central Rome.


The SIOI’s institutional aims are diplomatic and international training, research and information-gathering on international organisation and related issues, international and European relations, international cooperation, and the international protection of human rights.
