MFA-Turin agreement for country system promotion

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the City of Turin sealed an agreement aimed at the foreign promotion of the country system, signed by Minister Giulio Terzi and Mayor Piero Fassino..

The objective, Terzi explained, is to further “enhabce the international image that Turin already has with the UN and EU facilities hosted there, but that can be structured more effectively”. The MFA will offer “all the collaboration” necessary.

Thanking Terzi for having embraced this proposal, Fassino explained that Turin “can strengthen its international reach by availing itself of the diplomatic network”. At the same time, the city “is ready to make its institutions available for the promotion of the country system around the world”.

The mayor used the example of the year of Italian culture in the United States, planned for 2013, for which Turin’s cultural institutions are already in the process of outlining a calendar of events and programmes. Terzi commented on the event’s strong continuity with the celebrations abroad for the 150th anniversary of Italian unity, and that Turin “given its history, is a prominent interlocutor in this context”.

Terzi then recalled that the MFA has long been a generator of cooperation with local Italian bodies, regions and municipalities. “We have various analogous agreements, but I must say that Turin is a highly significant city on the level of Italian culture and national identity”.
