Confindustria, the Confederation of Italian Industry, has opened a branch in Serbia. The conference marking the event was opened by the Italian Ambassador to Belgrade, Varricchio, along with the Serbian Economic Minister, Ciric, and the Hon. Adolfo Urso. Over 200 Italian and Serbian firms, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), took part. Major financial and industrial corporations also attended, making it possible for operators and institutions to conduct numerous meetings to examine opportunities for collaboration with Serbia.
The new “Confindustria Serbia” draws on the experience of “Associazione Sistema”, led in recent years by Franco Delneri, a former SIMEST consultant. Delneri will guide the association in the next few months in identifying a management and operational structure.
Ambassador Varricchio illustrated the favourable opportunities to strengthen Italy’s economic activity in Serbia, confirmed by the economic data and by institutional events such as the bilateral summit of 8 March 2012 and its follow-up. Under the coordination of the Italian Embassy in Belgrade, the new initiative takes its place among existing business organisations such as the Business Council and the Italian-Serbian Business Council.
