A new series of “conversations” on global economic trends began at the Italian Embassy in London on 9 May 2012. The topic of the first round table organised by Ambassador Alain Giorgio Maria Economides and featuring leading experts in the sector was “Economic Growth Strategies from the Perspective of the Emerging Economies”.
During the round table a select group of economists, consultants and market analysts from major banks and investment funds, along with representatives of sovereign funds, discussed economic growth from a global perspective. Also taking part was the President of Borsa Italiana, Massimo Tononi.
Understanding opportunities for growth
This global perspective was deliberately designed to go beyond an analysis of how to revitalise the eurozone. The aim was to provide space for a discussion of the perceptions of the emerging markets (the BRIC countries and other countries in Asia and Africa that have shown particular vitality and economic dynamism) and of global economic-financial trends. A better understanding of the growth opportunities offered by those markets, with the help of the financial instruments that the City can offer, was the overall aim of the event.
The conversations on the economy will continue with other events focusing on, inter alia, infrastructure; mineral and energy resources; and the global agri-food market.
