In the context of the UN Iraq Development Project Programme, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UNIDO have organised the “Iraq Trade & Investment Forum”, to be held at the foreign ministry in Rome on 23 May 2012. The event aims to further strengthen economic and industrial relations between the two countries, and will take place in coincidence with the visit to Italy by Iraqi Minister for Trade Khairullah Hassan Babakr.
€4 billion in trade
With a total of €4 billion, Italy is Iraq’s top European trade partner. These solid relations can play a key role in the country’s reconstruction, which has led to a growing demand for goods and services, technologies and know-how. The UNIDO Industrial Development project, financed by the Italian Development Cooperation, proposes to create a context suitable to the development of the Iraqi private sector by generating projects for reconstruction, micro-business, industrial area construction and industrial rehabilitation.
Business opportunities
A large Iraqi delegation made up of high level institutional representatives and local business persons, will be given a chance to illustrate their country’s main business and investment opportunities, particularly during the afternoon session, which will be entirely dedicated to bilateral business meetings between Italian firms and the over 30 Iraqi firm representatives being led by the President of the Iraqi Investments Commission: a point of departure for encouraging deeper analysis of specific possibilities for networking, economic collaboration and joint ventures.
