ICC – International criminal justice (day – 17 july)

On 17 July, for the second year, we are celebrating “International Criminal Justice Day”. The date is the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute in 1998, setting up the International Criminal Court. To commemorate this event, the ICC flag is being flown at the Farnesina and the Italian Embassy at The Hague.

Until 2010, initiatives celebrating the adoption of the Statute were organised by the states most closely involved (Italy, until 2002, and then the Netherlands). Since 2011, the celebration has referred not just to the Rome Statute but to international criminal justice, which finds its permanent institutional “home” in the ICC.
