In New York, opera speaks Italian again

In New York, opera is speaking Italian again. For the entire 2012-13 season, all of the operas staged at the Metropolitan Opera House will have sub-titles in Italian. The audience will be able to read these on video-screens installed on the backs of seats, and will thus be able to follow the original words.

The first performance with Italian sub-titles will be Gaetano Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore”, which opens on 24 September. Read more, in Italian.
