Pakistan: major italian archeological discovery

A major success for Italian archaeology in Pakistan: a pre-Buddhist necropolis in the area of Udegram in the northwest Swat Valley dating back to from 1,500 to 500 BC. The site was discovered within the context of the “Act- Fieldschool” (archeology, community, tourism) programme coordinated by the Italian Archaeology Mission directed by Prof. Luc Olivieri of IsIAO with the collaboration of the department of Cultural Treasures of the University of Padua, which has been working in the Swat Valley (an area where Italy has been present since 1954) in search of traces of the passage of the troops of Alexander the Great during his conquest of Asia and of the origins of the Indo-European language.
