A pilot course in Italian has been celebrated in Herat, as part of the broad range of Italian initiatives in Afghanistan.
The course, which received funding from the Foreign Ministry at the end of 2012, is attracting keen interest from the local community. It is seen as a significant opportunity for young graduates in giving them access to job opportunities or scholarships in our country. Indeed, 374 applications were submitted for the 80 places available.
30% of students are women
A significant proportion (30%) of those attending the course, which ends on 9 July 2013, are women. During the ceremony, the Italian Ambassador in Kabul, Luciano Pezzotti, pointed out that the initiative is further testimony to the gradual change of focus in the Italian presence: from primarily military to, increasingly, the civil sector.
