Egypt: EU agrees to suspend export licences and review assistance

“Member States agreed to suspend export licenses to Egypt of any equipment which might be used for internal repression and to review their security assistance with Egypt”, state the conclusions of today’s extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council.

Licences covered by the EU common position, a matter for member state competence, will also be reassessed, commented Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. She added that assistance to the most vulnerable groups and civil society must continue.
