Tunisia is determined to overcome the contrast between the majority and opposition that is paralysing the country’s political transition and fuelling social tension. That is the message emerging from Foreign Minister Emma Bonino’s talks in Tunis with the country’s authorities. In her discussion with the President of the National Constituent Assembly, Mustapha Ben Jafaar, Minister Bonino reiterated Italy and the European Union’s support for Tunisia in its transition process.
Meeting with President Marzouki
Minister Bonino will be meeting President Moncef Marzouki, Prime Minister Ali Larayedh and members of the main government and opposition parties. She will also be meeting the leader of Ennahda.
The Minister’s visit to Tunisia, which ranks Italy as its second trading partner, with 750 Italian companies operating locally, is particularly significant given the current scenario.
