On 21 October a workshop was held at the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa to present the “Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility for Eastern Africa”to investors wishing to participate in the call for tenders. The Facility was launched in April 2012 thanks to funding from the German government, in partnership with the AU Commission, for the purpose of financing geothermal projects in Eastern Africa Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda; as of May also Burundi, the Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea and Zambia). The Facility will be funding €50 million in programmes through a series of calls for tender, the first of which took place last autumn, and the second of which will begin on 28 October 2013 and conclude the following 22 November.
