South Africa: ENEL Green Power wins 6 renewable energy contracts.
ENEL Green Power has won 6 renewable energy contracts in a tender published by the South African Energy Ministry for stage 3 of the “Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme” (REIPPP). ENEL will provide Eskom, the South African power utility, with 513 MW of electricity, of which 314 MW photovoltaic and 199 from wind. The contract is worth 630 million euros.
Of the 6 photovoltaic projects included in the tender, ENEL Green Power won 4, for the provinces of Northern Cape, Western Cape, Free State and Limpopo. And of the 7 wind power projects, it won 2 (in the Eastern Cape). The company plans to set up a subsidiary in South Africa. The photovoltaic plant will be produced through a joint venture between Enel Green Power, Sharp and ST Microelectronics, while the panels will be installed by Terni Energia (already present in the Northern Cape) and Enertronica.
