Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague – Prime Minister Renzi attends with Minister Mogherini

The Nuclear Security Summit hosted by the Netherlands is under way, with over 50 world leaders taking part. Italy is being represented at the plenary session by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini. The Italian Premier received a warm welcome on his arrival from his Dutch opposite number, Mark Rutte.

The Summit began with the screening of a film in which the speaker recalled that nuclear power helps civil life but if it ended up in the wrong – terrorist – hands, then the world would see wholesale destruction. During the evening, the leaders of the G7 countries (the USA, Canada, Japan, Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom) will move on to Catshuis, the Dutch Prime Minister’s residence, for a meeting on the crisis in Ukraine.
