Support for internationalisation – MFA-INFN protocol of understanding signed

The need for more synergies to support the internationalisation of scientific research and greater collaboration between Italian actors on the global scene led to the signing today of a protocol of understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), intended to provide greater impetus to the two institutions’ already close collaboration.

Meloni, increased competitiveness

“In order to make our businesses and research centres more competitive internationally we are going to have to increase opportunities for interaction and learn to coordinate on a global scenario”, said Andrea Meloni, MFA Director General for Country Promotion, as he proceeded with signing the protocol of understanding and related operational convention with Fernardo Ferroni, President of INFN. “The research activities on which we are focused all take place in international settings where competition is fierce, and the Farnesina’s support is essential for us”, added Ferroni, pointing out how the Ministry, through the Directorate’s unit for scientific and technological cooperation, directs the coordination and promotion of the international activities that INFN is involved in, which include those associated with CERN in Geneva and the SESAME scientific organisation headquartered in Jordan, the development of which has significant financial benefits for Italian firms.

Joint Committee

The MFA-INFN convention, like another agreement between the Ministry and the National Research Centre signed in July 2013, provides for a joint committee intended to will meet periodically to outline strategic goals and priority geographical areas and spheres of interest.
