Finmeccanica, one of Italy’s leading industrial groups in the technology and innovative services sector, signed an agreement this morning, Friday 4 April 2014, with the Ministry for Culture and Tourism on a donation to monitor and protect the archaeological site at Pompeii. Dario Franceschini, the Minister for Culture, and Gianni de Gennaro, Chairman of Finmeccanica, both attended the signing event.
Under the agreement, Finmeccanica will offer its technology experience free through group companies Selex ES and Telespazio. Selex ES will monitor the site using sensors and antennae, while Telespazio will handle the remote satellite monitoring. Finmeccanica has earmarked 1.7 million euros for the operation. The funding will also cover training for the officials who will be operating the equipment. Read more, in Italian
