Lithuania: Gemmo Holding to operate public lighting services

The Municipality of Vilnius has awarded Gemmo S.p.A. the contract for the modernisation and operation of the Lithuanian capital’s public lighting services. This complex and ambitious Public-Private Partnership will develop over the 18 years envisaged by the contract. The whole operation is worth 98.23 million euros, to which should be added Gemmo’s investment of 31 million. Gemmo will absorb the city-owned company that has run the service to date and create a new Lithuanian company to perform the following activities:

a) modernisation of the network and 100% of the lighting equipment

b) installation of monitoring and control centre operating 24-hours a day with toll-free number for citizens

c) replacement of 580 electricity distribution stations

d) renewal of lighting systems for pedestrian crossings, bridges, churches, monuments and the city’s two tunnels

e) installation of an IT platform for planning of operations and geolocation and remote operation of installations, including real-time detection of abnormal consumption levels

f) operation of preventive maintenance services and repairs to faults throughout the city network.
