Referral of Syria to the International Criminal Court, completion of the removal of Syrian chemical weapons, support for the moderate opposition and denunciation of the presidential elections planned for 3 June. These were the key points of the communiqué approved by the “Friends of Syria” ministerial meeting held in London on 15 May 2015 and reported by Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini, who attended the meeting.
Four points of the communiqué illustrated by Mogherini
Minister Mogherini illustrated the 4 points of the communiqué: a) support for the United Nations resolutions on referral to the International Criminal Court and on humanitarian assistance; b) identification and removal of all Syria’s chemical weapons; c) support for the moderate opposition, which was represented at the London meeting; and d) denunciation of the presidential elections and support for the Geneva process. Mogherini reiterated the need to consider the role of Iran, if the nuclear negotiations are successful, in resolving the Syrian crisis.
Libya: a recognised authority is needed, says Mogherini
It is important for Libya to have a recognised authority to resume the necessary dialogue, added Minister Mogherini in the press conference at the close of the London meeting.
