“The EXPO will be a major opportunity for Italy to contribute to the global debate on sustainable development”, said Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini while attending a meeting in Milan entitled “EXPO 2015: a Global Pact for Food”, organised by ISPI.
“The number of international participants in the EXPO has surpassed predictions at the start of the project”, she explained, and the “enormous challenge” is to “ensure access to food for the entire planet, and Italy – along with the UN and the European Union – is playing a fundamental role”.
Possible “World Food Day” in Milan
The UN may hold decide to hold the 2015 World Food Day (WFD) in Milan in coincidence with the EXPO, the minister announced during the conference, reporting that there had been “a positive reaction” from the UN Secretary General.
