MFA-MIUR – Schools to hold Cooperation Week in new academic year

Director General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs GiampaoloCantini, and Director General for Students, Integration, Participation and Communication of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) Giovanna Boda, signed a joint declaration today at the Farnesinathat provides for establishment of an annual Cooperation Week in schools, beginning with the next academic year.


Italian schools abroad involved



The agreement envisages activities aimed at raising awarenesswith regard to developmentand involving students, including those of Italian schools abroad, with a view to an education in global citizenship. The activities are to include an e-learning course for teachers, the establishment of an annual national award and collaboration with businesses involved in the development cooperation field.


Sustainable development


Development Cooperation Week will allow schools to generate synergies with the development education projects sponsored by the Italian Cooperation and Italian NGOs, and with the activities organised annually by the MFA and the MIUR for World Food Day (16 October). The initiative takes on additional importance in view of the 2015 Milan EXPO, which will offer a unique opportunity to draw students attention to themes of global development and sustainability and responds to the goals of the Year of European Development proclaimed by the EU for 2015.
