Italy in the United Nations

Italy has been a member of the United Nations since 1955 and has been elected to the Security Council six times. We are the top Western supplier of troops to foreign peacekeeping missions, and currently hold the command of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon led by General Portolano.

Our country hosts major UN agency headquarters, such as those that comprise the food and agriculture hub in Rome (FAO, IFAD and WFP) and the training centre in Turin. The Italian Development Cooperation contributed 54 million euro in financing in 2013 to the international organisations on Italian soil.
