Montreal – ’18 Ius Soli’ by Italo-Ghanian Kuwornu

The sensitive issue of the nationality of children of immigrants will be the topic of debate in Canada when the documentary “18 Ius Soli” by Italo-Ghanian director Fredd Kuwornu will be presented on Wednesday. The film tells the story of 18 young people born and raised on Italian soil by Latin American, Asian or African parents, and who are plagues by the discrepancy between belonging to Italy, the country in which they live, and the impossibility of obtaining Italian citizenship before they are 18 years of age and only then upon request. The screening will be hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute under the umbrella of the wider European project “Performigrations: people are the territory”, a cycle of cultural events dedicated to issues of nationality, migration and mobility. Kuwornu will also be on hand. The director is also the founder of the non-profit organisation “Italia Diversity”, created to promote ethnic and racial diversity in Italy and in Europe using art, and particularly cinema, as an instrument to turn society into a place of tolerance and respect for diversity.
