Italy was guest of honour at the tourism fair in Izmir, which attracted 30,000 visitors (a 50% increase on 2013) and about 800 exhibitors from 30 countries. Our country was represented by the Italian Embassy in Ankara and by 20 travel agencies and tour operators and representatives of EXPO Milano 2015, all hosted in the pavilion organised by ENIT, the Italian Tourism Board.
With a population of 80 million, over half of whom under 30, Turkey holds great potential for growth in out-going tourism. Our Embassy and the Italian diplomatic network are working to improve visa policies, with some success: in 2013, 140,000 visas were issued for visitors from Turkey, nearly 80% of them for tourism.
