Guidance and common principles

Through a constructive and inclusive approach to the issue of Security Council reform, the meeting is intended foster informal debate on the common principles that should inspire the reform: greater representativeness, transparency, efficiency and responsibility toward all UN Member States. The reform should also seek to improve the Council’s ability to cope with the new and growing challenges that the international community is facing and will have to tackle with in the future.

Opportunity for convergence

The meeting is intended to offer additional guidance and indications for the Inter-Governmental Negotiations under way, providing a further opportunity for fostering dialogue among Member States, paving the way to the common goal of a modern Security Council.
