The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published two new final rules on the preventive checks and controls that companies will be required to carry out on human and animal food. The new rules will enter into force on 16 November 2015. They are intended to up-date the FDA standards governing prevention systems and introduce more modern practices, not least in the light of current scientific knowledge concerning risks to human and animal health.
All large and medium-sized enterprises, both American and foreign, operating in the agri-food sector will have to comply with the rules. Within the coming year they must have in place a written food safety plan that includes risk assessment and preventive checks.
