Dei – UN Organize Technology Fair for Peacekeeping Missions

The United Nations Procurement Division is organizing a technology fair to cater to the needs of UN peacekeeping missions. The fair will take place in April 2016 and will be attended by senior officers of peacekeeping missions and technical experts of the United Nations. The companies involved will have the opportunity to give a short presentation of their area of expertise, followed by a hands-on demonstration of their equipment and machinery in theme-specific workshops. The technology fair will cover the following sectors: power generation, water treatment, solutions for water and waste disposal, housing and construction, and security and reconnaissance technologies. Companies wishing to participate are requested to directly apply to the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations in New York by no later than February 14, 2016, via email to: sec.italyun@esteri.it


Algeria: Government approves new cargo port project

The Algerian government has approved a project for the construction of a large new central commercial port at El Hamdania, near the city of Cherchell. The new port will have a draft of 20 metres and will feature 23 docking quays, with the capacity of handling 6.5 million containers and 25.7 million tons of cargo a year. The project includes the realization of an industrial district close to the port structure covering an area of 2,000 hectares, as well as the construction of highway and railway connections. The estimated cost of the project, to be completed in 10 years, is of approximately 3.3 billion dollars. The port will be developed through a partnership between one or several Algerian companies and a foreign firm capable of contributing to fund the works and take part in its future management.
