“Olivo Barbieri: images 1978-2014” is the title of an exhibition to be held in Buenos Aires from Mar. 2 at the Recoleta Cultural Centre. The event has been organised by the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) in the Argentine capital, by the hosting Centre and by the Maxxi Museum in Rome. The exhibition illustrates the artistic career of one of Italy’s most famous photographers, with works spanning from the late seventies to the present, highlighting his constant attention to the theme of perception, the ability to see and interpret reality. Barbieri uses his photographs to overturn the usual modes of representation, creating new narratives through continuous and incessant perceptual experiments. The exhibition will display over 100 works which, subdivided into seven different sections, contextualize the themes or areas of research in which Barbieri developed his artistic production.
“Olivo Barbieri: images 1978-2014”
These photos and films illustrate the photographer’s artistic itinerary from the late seventies to the present. The project took shape from his statement: “I’ve never been interested in photography, but in images. I believe that my work begins where photography ends,” conceived as an itinerary towards making a critical, original and reasoned reading of the work of one of the most important contemporary Italian photographers. The retrospective will arrive directly from Italy, where it was on display at the Maxxi from May 25, 2015 to Jan. 16 2016.
