The ancient symbols of Christian spirituality and their evolution over time are the focus of two conferences in Guatemala City promoted by Professor Eliana Schillaci, head of the Landivariano Cultural Heritage Centre of Rafael Landivar University. The conferences were organised and hosted by the local Italian Institute of Culture (IIC). In the first event on Feb. 4, the speaker discussed the “First manifestations”, the origins of Christian art and its first symbols dating back to late antiquity, and presented some of the images of the earliest manifestations of Christian spirituality and its evolution through time.
“The evolution of symbolism up to the Baroque period”
The second conference will focus on “the evolution of symbolism up to the Baroque period” and will be held on Feb. 18. On the occasion, the art historian will deal with the evolution of Christian symbolism up to the Baroque period. The Landivariano Centre is a space aimed at raising public awareness on the importance of the evaluation, documentation and conservation of national and international cultural heritage, both within the University and outside. To this end, it offers training to anyone working or in contact with works of art and any member of the general public interested in the management and conservation of heritage.
