The “Study, conservation and restoration of cultural and archaeological heritage: technologies and research infrastructure for Heritage Science” will be discussed during a conference by the same title on Feb. 2 and 3 in Mexico City. The event is the second of three scientific meetings organised by the Italian embassy in partnership with the National Research Council (CNR) and the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) as part of the Year of Italy in Latin America. The conference will be an opportunity to present Italian skills and excellence in the field of restoration and conservation, through the country’s most important representatives, and to allow networking with Mexican counterparts and/or the Mexican bodies responsible for the restoration and conservation of local artistic heritage. The Italian speakers present will be from the various departments of the CNR, the Opificio delle Pietre Dure (Factory of semi-precious stones), the Lincei Academy, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the Italian National Agency For New Technologies (ENEA) and the Universities of Florence, Naples and Calabria. They will debate with Mexican colleagues belonging, among others, to centres of the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT), restoration schools (ENCRYM and ECRO), the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and various universities (such as UNAM, UAM, Anahuac del Sur, Tecnológico de Monterrey and BUAP).

Discussions will also cover the European E-RIHS project, dedicated to research infrastructure and technology for the study, conservation and restoration of cultural (and wildlife) heritage. This research infrastructure, which will represent a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences between the participating countries, is designed to provide research centres, museums and universities access to methodologies, advanced instruments and interdisciplinary know-how. Lastly, two cooperation agreements will be signed between the Institute for the Conservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage (ICVBC) of the National Research Council and the Benemerita University of Puebla and between the University of Florence and the Anahuac del Sur University.
