Russia’s Kirov region is promoting itself as a possible trading, economic and cultural partner of Italy. The opportunities offered by this region in the Volga district were discussed on Monday at a meeting at the offices of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE) between the Italian Ambassador in Moscow, Cesare Maria Ragaglini, and the Governor of Kirov, Nikita Belykh, who presented the possibilities for potential Italian investors. Italian businesses, said Governor Belykh, have already long been present in the region with important companies such as Pirelli and Candy, which have excellent relations with local authorities and with whom they collaborate on a regular basis. Today’s meeting at ICE could thus lay the ground for a business mission to Kirov next spring, said the embassy. Governor Belykh also showed great interest in organising cultural events in the capital and in the region, especially in the field of cinema and photography.

Ambassador Ragaglini expressed his complete willingness to work on the governor’s proposals, including the possibility of organising a business mission in the coming months. The regional government’s interest in organising cultural events will also be strongly taken into consideration in planning 2016 activities. In this regard, Ambassador Ragaglini also highlighted the existing possibility to cooperate in the field of music, recalling the ongoing exchange programme for young Russian and Italian musicians and singers, suggesting that it be extended to the Kirov region.
