An exhibition on Giuseppe Rondizzoni, a Napoleonic soldier of Italian origin, has opened in Santiago, Chile. Entitled “Giuseppe Rondizzoni, a Hero”, the exhibition looks at the life a man who directly participated in the struggle for Chilean independence from 1816, when he travelled with General Jose Miguel Carrera to South America on the corvette Clifton. It has been organised by the Italian-Chilean artists’ association Archiart, in partnership with the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) in Santiago, at the Historic and Military Museum and will run from April 1 to June 15.
The aim is twofold: on the one hand to celebrate Rondizzoni and his adventures and on the other to narrate his story through a series of works because – despite the impact he had on Chile – there is not much information available about him. To this end, the members of the Association have created various works narrating his military and political feats. They range from sculptures to paintings, to etchings. Participants in the exhibition include Mario Soro, Daniela Orlandi, Malena Foconovo, Robinson Avello, Marcos Moscheni, Guillermo Grebe, Joaquin Mirauda, Clara Romero Peragallo, Pamela Galleguillos Schiappacasse, Francisco Mardini, Julio Fuentes Tamayo, Luis Garcia, Pilar Olcese, Olga Disi, Americo Melis, Christian Pholhammer Boccardo, Marcela Nicolas Oddo, Lucia Vitagliano and Gisella Verdessi.
